WHY CHESS?
Chess is thinking. And chess is fun. Therefore, not surprisingly, chess is rocket fuel for developing human brains. High quality chess instruction improves verbal, spatial, and mathematical reasoning, as well as impulse control, decision making, and self-esteem.
Chess has been shown to improve students' academic performance, especially in lower grades. (Chitiyo et al., 2019) Anyone can play chess, and the benefits of chess hold across socioeconomic groups, including English language learners. (Ferguson, 2000)
